Basic Income Guarantee Australia (BIGA) is an Australian University research web-site promoting a universal basic income guarantee as a just path to poverty elimination, economic security and solidarity in Australia and internationally.
Basic Income Guarantee Australia (BIGA) was accepted by the General Assembly of the Basic Income Earth Network (BIEN) as an affiliate member of the Basic Income Earth Network at its meeting in Cape Town, South Africa on the 4th of November 2006.
BIGA is proud to advise that John Tomlinson's (2000) E-book, Income Insecurity: The Basic Income Alternative published on this site, has now been archived in perpetuity by the National Library of Australia in digital form.
at Lake Eucumbene, in the Snowy
Mountains near Canberra,
Australia's Capital City.
BIGA is being developed to continue Basic Income research and the work of Australia’s original Basic Income web page Oasis – Australia, the Organisation Advocating Support Income Studies in Australia, which had been running for the past 13 years.
BIGA recognises the close links that have been forged in the South Pacific Region, between itself, Oasis – Australia and Universal Basic Income New Zealand (UBINZ). New Zealand is Australia’s closest neighbour that has a similar socio-economic income support distribution system. UBINZ has been working towards implementation of a Basic Income at a political level for some years.
In the International context, BIGA must express gratitude and recognition to the Basic Income European Network (now Basic Income Earth Network), BIEN, for their outstanding information exchange, support and promotion of Basic Income over many years.
